Important: No Triangle 55+ Community Has On-Site Golf
Unlike Sun City in Arizona or many Florida 55+ communities, none of the major Triangle communities (Carolina Arbors, Traditions, Carolina Gardens, etc.) include an on-site golf course. Golf is accessed via nearby public and private courses. If on-site golf is essential to your retirement, the Triangle requires a different approach than a Scottsdale or Villages-style community.

If Golf Is Your Primary Retirement Activity
The Triangle is a good — not great — retirement golf destination. It beats the Northeast and Midwest (year-round playable weather), but doesn't match Phoenix/Scottsdale or the Pinehurst area of NC (90 minutes southwest) for golf density and quality. If you play 4–5 days/week and want on-site course access, consider Pinehurst-area 55+ communities or evaluate whether the Triangle's other advantages outweigh the golf tradeoff for you.
For retirees who play 2–3 times per week and are comfortable driving to a course, the Triangle works well. The region has 50+ courses within 30 minutes of most major 55+ communities.
