- Belmont is farther from Charlotte than it looks on a map. Gaston County sits west of Charlotte, and Charlotte Douglas Airport is roughly 30–40 minutes depending on traffic. This is the longest airport drive of any major Charlotte-area 55+ community. If frequent travel is a priority, factor this in seriously.
