Sun City AZ — Clubs & Activities Guide

Sun City original was built on the idea that retirement should be active — Del Webb's 1960 vision was a community organized around recreation, not just housing. 65 years later, that founding philosophy is embedded in every RCSC charter and every club that meets in one of the five recreation centers. Here is what that looks like in practice.

The Five Recreation Centers

Bell Recreation Center

The flagship RCSC facility — largest of the five, built near the original Sun City entrance. Full fitness center, resort outdoor pool, indoor heated lap pool, ballroom, restaurant, and the primary home of many of the largest chartered clubs. The hub of Sun City social life.

Marinette Recreation Center

Southeast area recreation center with full fitness, pools, and club meeting spaces. Serves the eastern neighborhoods. Closest facility for many Sun City East residents.

Oakmont Recreation Center

North area facility — serves the northern Sun City neighborhoods with full amenity suite. Known for its active tennis program and one of the busier fitness center environments.

Sundial Recreation Center

Central Sun City facility — strong arts and crafts program, fitness, and pool access. The ceramics and pottery studios at Sundial are among the most active in the RCSC system.

Fairway Recreation Center

Golf-focused facility near several RCSC courses. Strong golf league meeting culture. Fitness and pool access. More golfer-centric character than the other four.

What 65 Years of Club Culture Means

The clubs in Sun City original have been running for decades. The bridge club has competitive players who have been playing together for 20 years. The concert band has a full rehearsal schedule and performs publicly. The theater group produces genuine full-cast productions. The woodcarving club has instructors who have been teaching since the 1980s.

This depth is not available in newer communities. Encanterra, CantaMia, and Victory at Verrado are great communities — but they have been operating for 10–15 years at most. Sun City's clubs are multi-generational institutions in active adult terms. For buyers who want to plug into established programming rather than help build it from scratch, Sun City original's club depth is a genuine competitive advantage.
