54 holes, three courses, optional plans from \$335 to \$4,481/year. What golf actually costs at Sun City — and what the HOA does and does not cover.
Sun City Hilton Head's HOA covers access to every amenity at all three campuses — fitness centers, pools, sports courts, clubs — but it does not include golf. The three courses are public golf courses owned by the Sun City community, meaning outside players can book tee times alongside residents. Residents receive preferred access and pricing through optional plan purchases. If you do not purchase a golf plan, you pay per round at non-resident rates (resident walk-on rates are lower but still per round).
This distinction is not prominently featured in community marketing. Many buyers arrive at Sun City expecting golf to be part of what their $224–$295/month covers. It is not. Budget separately.
| Course | Type | Designer | Character |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hidden Cypress | 18-hole championship | Arthur Hills | Wooded, Lowcountry marshes, considered the signature course. More forgiving for mid-handicap players. |
| Okatie Creek | 18-hole championship | Arthur Hills | More open layout with water features throughout. Generally more challenging. Hosts Sun City tournaments. |
| Argent Lakes | Executive 9-hole | — | Shorter, lower-difficulty course. Excellent for beginners, occasional players, or quick rounds. |
Plans are purchased annually and renew each calendar year. Rates shown are approximate 2025–2026 community rates. Verify current pricing with the Sun City Hilton Head golf pro shop before purchasing, as plan pricing is adjusted periodically.
| Plan | Approx. Annual Cost | Coverage | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9-Hole Single | ~$335/yr | 9-hole rounds, single resident, limited tee times | Occasional players who prefer shorter rounds or Argent Lakes |
| 18-Hole Single (standard) | ~$1,800–$2,200/yr | 18-hole access, single resident, standard tee time windows | Regular solo player, 2–3 rounds per week |
| 18-Hole Single (premium) | ~$2,400–$2,800/yr | Unrestricted tee times, single resident | Frequent solo player who wants flexibility on tee times |
| 18-Hole Couple (standard) | ~$3,200–$3,800/yr | 18-hole access for two residents in same household | Couples who both play regularly |
| Premium Couple | $4,481/yr | Unrestricted tee times, both residents, all three courses | Serious golf couples who play 4+ times per week |
For a serious golf couple in Sun City North on a $575,000 home: HOA $3,540 + premium golf $4,481 + property tax ~$1,400 + insurance ~$3,200 = $12,621/year in annual housing costs before the mortgage. That is $1,052/month. This is not excessive for the amenity package delivered, but it is dramatically different from the impression created by marketing that leads with "HOA starts at $224/month."
