The Beaches

Wrightsville Beach

The flagship Wilmington beach. Atlantic surf, wide sandy beach, walkable beach town with restaurants and shops, no boardwalk commercialism. The beach most Wilmington buyers have in mind. 15 minutes from Del Webb Riverlights, 20 minutes from Village at Motts Landing, 25 minutes from Mallory Creek and Brunswick Forest.

Carolina Beach

Wilmington’s family beach — has a small boardwalk, amusement rides, and a more casual atmosphere than Wrightsville. Carolina Beach State Park is adjacent with excellent nature trails. 20–25 minutes from most Wilmington communities.

Kure Beach

Quieter, more residential than Carolina Beach. Fort Fisher State Historic Site and NC Aquarium are here. At the southern tip of the peninsula with a more secluded feel. 25–35 minutes from most communities.

Topsail Island

40 minutes north of Wilmington. More remote and undeveloped than the southern beaches. Sea turtle nesting habitat. Surf City and Topsail Beach are both accessible. The beach for buyers who want to get away from resort activity.

Oak Island

40–50 minutes from most Brunswick County communities. St. James Plantation’s private beach club is here. Accessible to the public as well. Wide beach, low commercial development, quieter atmosphere.

The practical reality of beach access in WilmingtonWrightsville Beach in July and August has real parking and traffic challenges. Wilmington residents who go to the beach regularly learn quickly: weekday mornings before 10 AM, or shoulder season (May, June, September, October) on any day. The communities closest to Wrightsville — Riverlights and Motts Landing — have a genuine advantage on spontaneous beach visits that the Brunswick County communities do not.
