Outdoor Amenities

Outdoor amenities center on the community's extensive pond and walking path system. Multiple ponds thread through the development, with paved paths totaling several miles connecting the residential sections to the clubhouse and recreational areas. The outdoor pool area includes both a lap pool and a leisure pool with sundeck.

Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve borders the community to the east. This 580-acre Will County Forest Preserve is home to one of the largest great blue heron rookeries in Illinois. Residents have direct trail access to the preserve — a feature that distinguishes Carillon Lakes from essentially all other 55+ communities in the Chicago metro. The preserve is open year-round and offers birdwatching, photography, and nature walking along a dedicated 1.5-mile perimeter trail.

Activities and Social Programming

Carillon Lakes operates an active lifestyle director who coordinates scheduled programming throughout the week. Common activities include fitness classes, card groups (bridge, euchre, poker), arts and crafts sessions, book clubs, and organized day trips to Chicago cultural venues. The proximity to Joliet provides access to Rialto Square Theatre, the Harrah's entertainment complex, and the Route 66 heritage corridor for organized group outings.

Because the community is fully built out and has been established for nearly two decades, the resident organization is mature. There are active committees, long-standing social clubs, and a well-attended annual community calendar. Buyers often cite this established community culture as an advantage over newer-construction competitors still building their population.

What Carillon Lakes Does Not Have

Carillon Lakes does not include a golf course — the signature feature at Carillon Plainfield. Buyers specifically seeking an on-site golf course should look at Carillon (Plainfield), Carillon Club (Naperville), or Regency at Bowes Creek in Elgin. Carillon Lakes also does not include restaurant or bar facilities within the clubhouse — events are catered-in rather than operated from a commercial kitchen. And unlike Sun City Huntley with its Freedom and Liberty rec centers serving 5,489 homes, Carillon Lakes' single clubhouse must serve 1,113 homes, which some residents find limiting during peak programming periods.
